Wreaths for Western Reserve was formed to solicit donations for the placement of wreaths at headstones of our fallen heroes laid to rest at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio. A total of 250 wreaths were placed in our first year December 2007. The number has increased each year enabling us to place over 1,300 wreaths in December 2010. We will continue our efforts to raise awareness for this project so we will be able to cover more gravesites with each passing year.
The 2011 Nationwide Remembrance Ceremony date is scheduled for Saturday, December 10 at noon. The cut off date for fund raising through Wreaths for Western Reserve will be Wednesday, November 24th. Donations received after this date will be used towards the 2011 wreath laying.
All wreaths placed by Wreaths for Western Reserve will be ordered through Wreaths Across America located in Maine and those wreaths will be shipped directly to the Western Reserve Cemetery. In order to uphold the dignity of the cemetery and maintain the utmost respect for our fallen heroes, we must limit the number of volunteers who will make placements. Therefore, the Young Marines and Civil Air Patrol organizations will be making the placements.
We encourage everyone to visit the cemetery on the wreath laying day to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and attend the brief ceremony which will take place at noon. By doing so, we continue the mission to
~REMEMBER THE FALLEN~
~HONOR THOSE WHO SERVE ~
~AND TEACH OUR CHILDREN THE VALUE OF FREEDOM~
